How to Move My Documents Folder to a Different Hard Drive


By default My Documents folder is stored in the same hard drive as the Windows operating system. This is not recommended because (1) My Documents stores all personal data which quickly grow in size and if there is not much space left on your system drive, it greatly degrades Windows performance (2) if your computer gets virus/malware infection, your personal data is compromised whereas if it is on a separate hard drive, it helps minimize the risk of infection (3) it makes backup difficult whereas if it is on a separate drive, you can backup the whole drive with no problem (4) if you want to reformat and reinstall the Windows operating system, your files will be deleted too whereas if your files are stored in a different drive, you can format the system drive without affecting your personal files.
